FAQ's
Learn more about Impact through our frequently asked questions. If you would like further information, please send us an email:

Impact believes in 100% of donations going to charity.
As an organisation we have adopted a community funding model that allows us to operate with the support and collaboration of our community members. Our operations are to be sustained through optional contributions, which means people have the choice to contribute financially if they find value in our work. This approach not only empowers donors to decide how they engage with us but also ensures that our services remain accessible to everyone.
The purchase and use of Gift Cards do not qualify for tax credits with the IRD.
Additionally, not all donations will be eligible for tax credits. Please check the Donee Status for donations in the product description as well as the information provided by the IRD.
The following is information provided by the IRD
You can claim 33.33 cents for every dollar you donated to approved charities and organisations. You can only claim on donations that added up to the same amount or less than your taxable income during the tax year.
Who can claim
You can claim donation tax credits if all of the following situations apply to you.
You're claiming as an individual and not on behalf of a trust, partnership or company.
You earned taxable income during the tax year in which you're claiming a donation.
You were a New Zealand tax resident at any time during the tax year, 1 April to 31 March.
What you can claim
You can claim tax credits for donations of $5 or more when the donation:
was to an approved charity or organisation
did not provide any direct benefit to you or your family
was not given, bequeathed, done or appointed by will or made by way of a full or partial debt forgiveness.
Donations to schools
You can claim for donations to most schools and parent-teacher associations.
You cannot claim for:
tuition fees
private school fees
exam fees
attendance dues
tertiary education fees
parent-teacher association membership fees
costs for a student doing a voluntary activity which is not part of the school curriculum
costs of materials for something a student made at school and took home, such as something made in a woodwork class.
How much you can claim
The total you can claim in a tax year is the lesser of:
33.33% of your total donations
33.33% of your taxable income.
If your total donations were more than your taxable income, you can split your donations with your spouse or partner. You would claim up to your amount of taxable income and your spouse or partner would claim the rest, up to their amount of taxable income.
Splitting donations with your spouse or partner
When you submit your donation receipt in myIR, let us know how much of it you want to give to your spouse or partner. We'll make sure your spouse or partner gets this amount. They do not need to submit the receipt themselves. You can do this even if the receipt is in your name only.
Am I eligible for a tax credit for my donation?
If certain criteria are met, you, as an individual, can claim a donation tax credit on a donation of $5 or more. You cannot claim a donation tax credit on behalf of a company, trust or partnership. Check your eligibility for each donation receipt.
Impact Supporters help by contributing to our operating costs. This allows for 100% of all donations to go to your chosen charitable causes.
Examples of costs covered by Impact Supporters:
Payment Processing Fees (estimated at 4% of the donation amount).
Bank Fees (account fees, batch payments & international transfer fees).
Administration (website, email domain, office supplies and staffing).
If you would like to support these costs, you can add an optional contribution during the checkout process or become a regular donor through our impact supporter subscriptions. You can click below for more information.

Impact considers itself to be a funding partner. We will actively search for charitable organisations which we believe align with our values and priorities. Organisations must still complete a verification process to ensure that they are eligible to be listed on the Impact platform.
Impact also values feedback and recommendations from our online community.
If you would like to recommend a project to us, please email info@charityimpact.org.
The donations displayed on Impact for organisations operating overseas have been converted from the organisation's local currency into New Zealand dollars using the mid-market exchange rate. In the event of a currency fluctuation resulting in a variance of more than 10%, the donation product will be adjusted accordingly to better reflect the current pricing.
If you wish to raise a concern or complaint, please submit this in writing by emailing info@charityimpact.org or by sending a letter to:
Impact Aotearoa Charitable Trust
22 Woodhurst Drive
Christchurch 8051 New Zealand
Any complaints will be assessed and acted on within 14 days of the concern being raised. If a satisfactory resolution cannot be achieved by discussion between the parties, independent mediation may be sought to resolve any outstanding issues.
Impact terms and conditions for payments and our refund policy for donations.
Donations refund policy:
Impact (Impact Aotearoa Charitable Trust) will refund all donations made that are fraudulent due to unauthorised use of a credit card. There may also be times when we are unable to use funds raised for a specific purpose. If this happens, we may refund these donations. In all circumstances, refunds of donations will be at our discretion. Before we can refund an online donation, we will find out if the donation has already been applied to a charitable purpose and whether or not it can be refunded back to the donor.
If you have any questions about this policy or wish to seek a refund of a charitable donation you have made, please email info@charityimpact.org
